MV Alumni Day 2012 Information

Before continuing on to registration, please read the following regarding registration for Alumni Day 2012. There is a lot of information here, please read it carefully!

Children of MV Alums
As the MVAA matures, we've had more and more children of alums want to march on the field with their parents. While we acknowledge this as a great experience for both parents and their children, the safety of everyone involved is paramount in our minds. Therefore, here are revised guidelines as approved by the Department of Athletics:

Young Children
Young children of alums are welcome to do the Hokie Pokie in the NORTH END ZONE during halftime. A contingent of current MVs will supervise and lead the youngsters down onto the field at the appropriate time. Children will only be allowed to enter the field via the MV seating section and ONLY after halftime has begun. MVAA parents are responsible for making sure their children are dropped off with, stay with, and are picked up from the MVs leading this dance in a timely manner.

Youth
The youth of alums will be allowed to march and take part in the halftime performance provided they (1) are fully registered for the event (and wear the MVAA Alumni Day shirt), and (2) have at least two years of experience in a band program in their school. They will enter the field with their parents via the MV seating area ONLY after the teams have cleared the field. When registering these children, please indicate what instrument they play and whether they are marching with that instrument section (e.g. a trumpet youth marching in trumpet section) or with their parent (e.g. a trumpet youth marching with trombone parent).

Marching into the Stadium
The pregame field is not a place for children. We can no longer allow you to bring young children onto the playing surface as you enter the field. If you have children, please enter the stadium through normal ticket gates. If a youngster is marching (review that criteria above), we assume they are responsible enough to keep their eyes open as they come into the stadium. Unfortunately, we cannot assume the same for younger children.

Registration
Registration ensures that we get an accurate count of alumni marching, music, and the instruments they need. All people marching (and only those marching) must be registered. If you are registering a youth, please select "MVAA Youth" as their class year.

Registration fees of $15.00 for the first registrant, and $8.00 for each subsequent registrant covers:

  • An Alum Day t-shirt
  • Slight overhead costs

We will have registration a check-in booth at the practice field on Saturday at a time TBD.

Dave McKee was able to secure 250 tickets for the MVAA. If it is like normal, those will go quickly. We again are limiting the number of tickets per registration to a maximum of six (6) to be sure everyone who needs a ticket and wants to march can attend. Tickets are non-refundable. They will be available only on the day of the game – September 17th. No parking passes are provided.

PLEASE do not register or buy tickets for other MV alums other than your spouse. Thank you. We want to get the information from every MV alum who is attending. If you want to sit together, please indicate that in the "Sit with" form field. We'll do our best to group folks together.

As for other family members or friends coming to Alumni Day with you, you may buy up to 6 game tickets and as many additional tailgate tickets and shirts as you need. Remember, you do not need to register (i.e., click "Add new guest...") any guest who isn't marching, but you will need to buy them game/tailgate tickets.

Registration will close at noon on August 29th.

Apparel
This year, we're changing the t-shirt design slightly. We have a generic Alumni Day short sleeve t-shirt, which should then be used for subsequent years. If you buy a t-shirt this year, there will be no need to buy one next year (unless you really want another). The registration fees include one t-shirt per person registered, to be used as your uniform for marching. T-shirts and registration are required for everyone marching during halftime - for MV Alums and for any youth marching too. Additional t-shirts will be available for $8.00 each.

Also, we will again be offering golf shirts. They will be white with an MV logo over the left breast. Note – the shirts we looked at were very large, so you might want to consider ordering down a size.

Golf shirts are $21.00 each. However, Dave asks that we wear the t-shirts during halftime for uniformity.

Tailgate
The alumni and their families and guests, who purchase a tailgate ticket, will have their own tailgate separate from the band, complete with chairs, tables and a tent. We think this will eliminate the issue we've had in the past with running out of food. The tent also gives us a place to meet.

Here's the menu:

  • BBQ Chicken Breast
  • Traditional macaroni salad
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Fresh made potato salad
  • Southern baked beans
  • Baked apples
  • Oven fresh yeast rolls
  • Sweet and unsweet tea

Game ticket waiting list
As with last year, we will have a live ticket availability count on the MVAA website. If you do not register in time to receive tickets, you will be placed on the waiting list. In order to get on the game ticket waiting list, should one be necessary, you will be required to purchase the tickets in advance. If tickets become available for you, you will be notified and your registration will be complete. There will be no need to go through the process a second time. If tickets never become available, you will be given the option of a game ticket-only or full refund.

Registration will open at 5pm on July 20th.
