B-I-MV-O

In a world that is focused on quarantining at home, it can be difficult to feel connected to our loved ones. Social media and modern technology has allowed us to continue to stay connected with friends and family.

Ironically, a lot of the popular trends going around on social media include ones that are about seeing what experiences we all have in common with each other while we are apart. For instance, the Instagram Story BINGO cards that have been tailored to fit almost any group of people based on hometowns, TV shows, colleges, and so much more. Through these BINGO cards, we can see what experiences are important to these people.

It was only a matter of time before someone tried to apply that to the Marching Virginians. Both current and graduated MVs created their own BINGO cards to share fun MV experiences.

In this first card created  by William Redmon, we see classic MV traditions like the Game Day Apple, flying during Superman, and the section pyramids. There are also more specific and recent traditions like eating a moldy sandwich at the 2017 UVA game.

It also includes experiences like being an officer, being in band related Greek life, and receiving a four-year mug.

This MV BINGO card was created by Anna Bohlmann and Akul Mehra. This card focuses much more on the humor side of the band, undoubtedly an integral part.

Not only is it funny, but so many of them are relatable like “left practice to get an ISO [Instrument Supply Officer]” or “not been able to see a drum major”. In this card we also see some of the same traditions from Redmon’s card like the Game Day Apple or tapping the Stack Hokie Bird on the way down to the stadium, things that have been an important tradition for years now.

I thought these cards both showcased important MV experiences and showcased the fun MV attitude that comes with being in one of the best organizations at Virginia Tech.

So I wanted to make an official BINGO card for the MVs!

I sent out a survey to the MV ListServ as well as to the Marching Virginians Alumni Association in order to try and make an MV BINGO card based on the experiences of many.

I got an amazing 137 responses, so thank you so much to everyone who took the time to submit the MV experiences you thought deserved to be on the official card.

So, without further ado, here is the official MV BINGO card, made for MVs, by MVs.
