While most people find their “band family” during their freshman year band camp, Kelly Guthrie was born into hers. With two MV parents, Kelly always knew she wanted to join the MVs. The Hokies have advanced to the sweet 16 and are gearing up to face Duke. So where do the Marching Virginians fit into this? Many MVs join The Hokie Pep Band that plays at basketball games. Eric Chang, Marching Virginians drum major and member of The Hokie Pep Band, sits down with Chad Reep, assistant director of the Marching Virginians and director of Pep Band, in order to take a closer look at how the MVs contribute to Hokie Basketball.
Even though The Marching Virginians are a fairly young organization, our ability to pull together and work toward a common goal is one of our greatest strengths. With VT Giving Day starting at noon on Tuesday 3/19, can the MV Alumni join forces and raise enough funds for the MVs to rise to the top?
Once the football season ends, most MVs have a nice long break from the “marching” aspect of performing in an ensemble, but members of the MV color guard have the opportunity to keep marching and spinning throughout the winter as members of ValianT — Virginia Tech’s own indoor color guard.
